A practical first-board strategy

Do not begin with the fastest-looking pair. Scan the layout for tiles that block access to multiple pieces, then clear matches that open the broadest area. If the board uses layered Mahjong Solitaire rules, verify that a tile has no piece above it and an open side before treating it as selectable.

Keep more than one pair available. When four copies of a symbol appear, consider which pairing will leave the other two accessible. Removing two convenient copies can trap the remaining pair under the same stack.

Pause after a large reveal. Newly exposed tiles may create a stronger move elsewhere on the board.

Use hints and restarts deliberately

Restart is useful when a board genuinely has no productive route, but it also replaces the position you were learning to solve. First scan the outer edges, top layers, and special artwork. If you still cannot find a usable pair, restart with a clear reason.

A hint can teach you which tile was legally open, but it does not guarantee the strongest strategic pair. Use it to correct your scan rather than clicking through the whole board mechanically.

What “free” does and does not promise

The featured game has no purchase flow, advertising layer, download, or account requirement. It runs as static HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and image assets from MahjongWiki’s own domain.

No game credentials or payment details are requested. The browser only needs to execute the local game code and load its local tile images.
