Mahjong Score Calculator – Riichi Han & Fu

This mahjong score calculator handles Japanese riichi payments. Enter han, fu, dealer status, win type, honba, and riichi sticks. The result shows who pays what instead of returning an unexplained total.

It does not convert scores from Hong Kong, Chinese official, American, or another variant. Those systems use different units and hand values.

What each input means

Calculate yaku before entering han. Dora increases han but does not count as a yaku by itself, so a hand still needs a legal winning pattern.

How the base calculation works

Below the limit hands, riichi uses base points:

fu × 2^(han + 2)

The calculator then applies the dealer or non-dealer multiplier and rounds each payment up to the next 100 points. A non-dealer ron uses 4 times the base; a dealer ron uses 6 times the base. Tsumo divides responsibility among all 3 opponents.

Mangan and higher limits replace the ordinary base when the threshold is reached. This tool labels mangan, haneman, baiman, sanbaiman, and its counted-yakuman setting in the result panel.

Why some inputs are blocked

Not every han-and-fu pair can occur. A 20-fu hand is pinfu won by tsumo. Menzen tsumo supplies 1 han and pinfu supplies another, so 20 fu cannot appear with only 1 han; ron also adds fu and cannot remain at 20.

Seven Pairs uses fixed 25 fu and is itself a 2-han hand. The calculator flags 1 han / 25 fu rather than presenting a plausible-looking but illegal payment.

Honba and riichi sticks

For ron, each honba adds 300 points to the discarder’s payment. For tsumo, each of the 3 opponents adds 100 points per honba. This preserves the same 300-point total increase.

Riichi sticks are different: they are already on the table. The calculator lists the pot separately so it is not confused with the amount paid by the losing player or players.

Worked examples

For 3 han, 40 fu, non-dealer ron, the base is 1,280. Four times the base is 5,120, rounded to 5,200 points.

For 2 han, 30 fu, non-dealer tsumo, East pays 1,000 and each other non-dealer pays 500, for 2,000 total before honba or sticks.

Change 1 input at a time and read the breakdown. That makes the calculator useful for study instead of answer copying.

Scope and authority

This tool runs locally and sends no hand data. It excludes multiple yakuman, kiriage mangan, pao responsibility, draw payments, and local rules. A league or event rulebook always wins over this educational calculator.
